filth of the flesh?

Some would assert that baptism cannot 'save' because it is specifically said not to remove 'the filth of the flesh." But, the filth of the FLESH is not synonymous with the scarlet stain of sin on the soul!

Filth, from the Greek word "rupos," simply signifies that which is dirty. This command of God - to be baptized - was NOT designed to serve as a bath to remove dirt, but a condition precedent on the basis of which God removes the guilt of sin from our souls.
