Why reject "literal" restoration from Ezekiel, Isa., Jer., etc. (either they were fulfilled in Babylonian return, or we must understand them as speaking of the spiritual restoration under Christ.
1.This would make circumcision of the flesh as an eternal restriction on communion with God, Ezek. 44:9; Zech. 16:21; Joel. 3:17.
a.this would require a complete following of law of Moses, Gal. 5:2-3.
b.such action only results in a curse, Gal. 5:2-3
c.We are the TRUE circumcision, who worship IN SPIRIT, Phil. 3:3 (i.e., the church!)
d.Our circumcision is "made without hands" in putting off body of sins, Col. 2:11-12, WHY GO BACK TO OLD?
2. This would require David literally returning / reigning cp. Ezek. 34:23-24
a.Would have "two kings," Two heads" Two shepherds. BUT THERE IS TO BE ONLY ONE. Ezek. 34:23; 37:23
b.David's seed (Jesus) was to "sit on His throne WHILE HE IN THE TOMB, t 2 Sam. 7:13-16.
c.This would make David equal in power to Jesus, but we know David called Him LORD.
3.This would require literal Sabbath keeping for all people - Ezek. 44:24; 45:17; 46:1,3 (also, the Passover, 45:21, New moon, 46:1,3, 45:17; sabbatical year, Lev. 25:10; Ezek.46:17,Isa.66:23)
a.Christians are expressly said to be delivered from such, Col. 2:14
b.This would be "returning to the weak and beggarly elements, and we not to do that, Gal. 4:9
4.This would require restoration of ancient kingdoms.
So would we be led to believe by Micah 5:Sff; Isa. 11:11-16 (their position on its), Dan. 2; Ezek.36; Isa. 24; Isa. 14:1-2; Jer. 50, etc. It is from these nations Israel was to return from.
1.These destroyed long ago, and God has said that "they shall not rise again, " Isa. 13:9-11; Jude7
2.Time? cp. Mk.1:15; Gal. 4:4; etc.
5.Would require the restoration of the Levitical priesthood.
Ezek. 44:10-16; 43:19; Isa. 66:20-21; Jer.33:17-18; Jer. 33:23-26 Malachi 3:3-4.
a.Servants of Jesus have alter which THEY HAVE NOW RIGHT TO EAT, Heb. 13:10. IF THEY SERVE JESUS (which will happen in Mill.), CANNOT SERVE BOTH ALTER.
b.Levite only ministered to the shadow, Heb.8:5-6. Why restore the shadow instead of having substance?
c.WHY RESTORE THE OLD SYSTEM, WHEN TODAY ALL CAN BE PRIESTS AND KINGS UNTO GOD? -- Rev. 1:6,9.
6.Would requires the restoration of animal sacrifices FOR sin.
Ezek.42:13; 43:18-27; 45:17-25; etc.
a.Why restore that which was "not better", Heb.9:23
b.Why restore that which could not take away sins, Heb. 10:4,11
c.Why restore that which would require a rebuilding of the "lesser holy place' Heb. 9:24?
d. Why restore that which could not cleanse the conscience, not continually make the comers thereunto perfect, Heb. 10:1-2
e. Why restore that which God had no pleasure in, 10:8
f.WHY RESTORE THAT WHICH IS NOT NEEDED, SINCE IN THE SACRIFICE OF CHRIST, ALL (EVEN THE JEWS) CAN BE FORGIVEN OF ALL THEIR SINS Heb. 10:18????
7.Would require the restoration of the Mosaic Law.
This required by# 6,5,1 above,
a.it was "unprofitable," 9:26, why restore it.
b.it is inferior, Heb. 8:6 Why restore it.
c.it was "faulty", Heb. 8:7 why restore it.
d.it had "inferior rest/promise, Heb. 8:6
e.it could not justify, Rom. 3:
f: it nullifies the grace of God, Rom. 6:14
g.We are "dead to it" Rom. 7; it was taken out of the way, Col. 2:14, WHY RESTORE IT.
HOW COULD THIS (the restored law) BE CALLED THE 2nd COVENANT? It is only the 1st restored!. Was the 2nd to be "like the first" NO, Heb. 8:9, THEN HOW COULD IT BE RESTORED? Heb. 8:9; Jer.31:31f, HAVE TO BE THE NEW TESTAMENT, OR THE GOSPEL, FOR DURING THE "millennial period" they will LIVE UNDER "THE RESTORED COVENANT", which IS the first, and hence NOT THE 2nd, Therefore, if the gospel is not the 2nd, THERE NEVER WILL BE ONE!!!!
